Advice please chaps and chapettes.

I gave my PC to my folks back in march when I got myself a little laptop, the idea being that I'd use my Xbox 360 for gaming.

I hate my laptop, can't sit at it and play, can't sit at it and browse or do video editing etc, it's just not right. I need a desk, big monitor and full size keyboard!

Problem is that if I did get a PC it'd have to be in the livingroom, which means I'd want it to be very, very quiet. This is where I need some advice. Which case would you recommend and which method of cooling? It will be a high spec PC so I doubt passive cooling would work, perhaps water cooled or just good quality fans?

Any advice greatly appreciated :D

lian li pc-7+ has 120m fans which are pretty quiet but stock ones could be replaced with quieter ones, pc-7+ has great air flow and looks great it's not going to be an eye-sore in your living room like those old gamer cases

Go with that completely silent Zalman case, I'm not on commission, honest.

and optional 3rd world debt to go with it

iirc it cant cope with modern components and is about £600

a more sensible choice would be a silent CPU cooler, coupled with some sensible 120mm quiet fans, a fan controller, and case with 120mm fan mounts, and preferably metal (A to look good in your living room, and B because they're better conductors of heat)

I guess depends what you class as "loud" being a gaming machine won't help, you want it to video editing..so more hard drives are required. Hotter components. Therefore more noise unless you go WC, but that's expensive.

Cheers guys, I'll probably get another Lian-Li or similar case, where I want to store it there's plenty of room front/above and behind but not much to the sides so I guess it'd have to have front/rear mountable 120mm fans. I'm guessing the more of them I have the slower I can run them and the quieter it'll be!

Not in any rush so I'll plan this out and get the PC I really want :)

Stacker is fugly :|

Go back to your cheapo £30 case  I take it you haven't used one?
Those drive bays along the front are air vents, it has whopping great round side vent, excellend upradability with optical and hard drives, and loads of space even with everything fitted (usually most cases are packed once you've fitted everything)

It fits a Ninja. :)
