Continuous Clicking Sound...

Just took delivery of my Ultima OC today... there's a continuous clicking sound coming from the case and when trying to install Vista 64bit it can't find any hard drives.

I think the HDD is dead. I think there's probably a 99% chance this is the case. Everything else is detected fine. I can't find any solution to this problem. BIOS won't even find the HDD. Vista can't, even when installing drivers for SATA from the Mobo's CD.

OcUK haven't sent any instructions with the PC, nor have they said whether they installed Vista. I have my doubts that they have because they might've noticed the clicking sound or the lack of HDD detection.

Can anyone offer any insight into this, like what kind of diagnostics I can run etc.

Thanks.

The clicking sound does sound like the HDD, it could be a fault HDD or I've had it where the PSU was causing the problem with the HDD, swapped the PSU and that solved the clicking.

Something about it not giving the HDD enough power.

I just changed a BIOS setting for SATA Type from IDE to AHCI and the clicking is gone? Odd.

Edit: even back at the original IDE setting the clicking is now gone. Perhaps the drive has finally died?

Righto, confirmed that it was the HDD. Swapped in an old SATA I have from my other PC and it works just fine.

Will talk to OcUK.
