Contract about to end...what next?

At the moment i have a w810i on O2 via carphone warehouse, paying £30 for 200 texts 100 minutes (i think) was ok when i got it but ive started going upto about £40 as i go over on texts

What contracts out there at the moment are the best, with the best phones?

Would prefer it to be 12 months if at all possible but im looking for something hat im not going to be going over what i pay, but not having loads of unused

Im very happy being with O2, but their deals dont seem to be quite as cheap as others

Would it be possible to leave O2 but still keep my number, as id rather not change my number if i didnt have too

As for the phone, im not fussy really, prefer flip phones but obviously i have the w810i at the moment...as long as its not touch sensitive i dont seem to be able to get on with those

So what can i get! :D

the one part of that i can answer is that you can take your number with you to any network. when you call o2 to give them 30 days notice, just ask for a PAC code.

this is the code you give to your new network to port your number across.

you also might find that O2 will offer you something when they think they are going to lose you.

when i ring them would i be able to then go into a shop and sort a deal out to keep me there or would it have to be over the phone, because ive not had a play with many phones recently and want a look round
 
Go look at phones and then phone them up. Also, look at what everyone else is offering. You want to be able to say - I'm moving to X (whether you are or not) because I can get Y phone for free. Then wait and see what they say. Once they tell you that they too can give you the phone for free on a £Z a month contract tell them that the other network was offering the phone + that number of minutes for £A a month.

You'll have to do it over the phone because you'll need to speak to retentions.
 
if they do offer you something over the phone, it'll most likely be something better than in stores and the stores will most likely not match these offers.

use the shops beforehand to get a feel of new phones or use gsmarena.com to get info on phones :)

a bit of info on the pac code: your new network cannot be the same as the old network, and its usually only valid for a 28 days (after that you can request another pac code if necessary).

so if i stay on 02 i cant keep my number but if i go elsewhere i can, that sounds daft lol

ill go have a look at soem phones at the weekend then, think i need to ring up about the 19th so ive enough time to find one i like :)

yup, bit a good way round it is to port your number to a payg sim. as theres no contract on that, you can then port back to your old network soon after :)

e.g. old o2 contract > temp orange payg > new o2 contract
 
Just phone up o2 and say you want to cancel. then make up some offer from 3 or what ever provider.

I've gone off expensive phones. Why shell out so much, unless your going to use it.

So this year gone with o2 100mins 400 texts for £8 I think it was 12month and no handset.
However for 15 a month they offered me about 200mins 400texts and with a cheap handset.

So I'm just going to pick up a phone of the bay and get cheap monthly out goings.
 
ahh i didnt think you could get contracts without a handset, im more than happy with the phone ive got tbh, and something like 100 mins and 400 text for £8 would be fantastic for what id need, ill ask them when i ring up if i cant find a nice phone that i want :)
 
i recently tryed to cancel an o2 contract id had for 4 years

his first offer of cashback got turned back, his second offer of half price line rental for 18 months got turned down. I really was all set to cancel as id bought an orange contract already

and then i got offered o2 online 20 entirely free for the whole 18 months. Half price line rental for 18 months (so £10 / month) and then on top of that £180 credit.

So in total i got £360's worth of credit

you wont get that in store :D

think i may be calling their bluff over the phone then

mine and the gfs contracts both end on the same day anyway so ill make sure i get the same for both of us
 
tbh i know the reason we got offered so much,

1) the contact had run 4 years
2) the previous year we said exactly the same thing and took credit, and used it far too fast :o
3) the year before that we'd renewed the contract for a relatively cheap PAYG phone we wanted for free (was about £150 on PAYG) and took an 18 month contract.

plus the ammount of times the contract had gone way over its minute allocation, i dread to think how much actual money they made from us

You wont get this type of offer if you've only been with them a year and not spent much.
 
been with them ever since they were btcellnet :p lol

not the same contract mind you

ill see what i can find at the weekend, see if there are any phones that really take my fancy, if not ill try and get as much out of them as i can :p
