In a month or so I'll be coming back to the UK after 18 months of travelling. I've got plenty of saving etc etc.

Question is I need a phone and I've always gone for contract phones , will I have any trouble getting a contract with no job? Previous credit rating is A1 and i've been at same address for donkey's years......

Anyone know a definite answer ? I heard a something about maybe having to put a 100 quid deposit down or something.

If it doesn't look like I can get a contract phone i'll grab one over Taiwan or Thailand when i'm there

Thanks in advance

I've never been asked who I work for or even if I work when getting a contract phone, and I've had them since I was 18 and earning 20p a week :p

Ha ha 20p indeed , been a while since I got a contract , from memory I don't even think they ask about jobs. don't they just check your bank details and house address etc etc ?

I've been surviving whilst travelling on some crap Nokia from 4 years ago!

they will do a basic credit check to make sure your not a serial contract run away frommer but thats it

make sure your on the electoral register too ! i had loads of problems getting a contract when 18 and that ended up being the reason why. no problems since

Sounds good , i'm all ok with the credit stuff. Just a little worried about not having a job etc etc. they don't need to know i've been travelling right;):p

Resellers usually ask and sometimes refuse if you are not in full employment, can't remember if o2 did when I applied directly, pretty sure it was brought up, I got a contract though even though I'm not employed as my credit rating was/is good.

I've known a few people who have been asked to provide a £100 deposit, but this was only when they had a bad credit rating.

Might be easier to get a sim only deal if you are concerned that you may not get a contract if you are currently unemployed. I know someone who got a o2 12months sim only with no job.

I should think i'll be fine like , like I said have loads of and loads of good credit on the electoral roll , been at same address for years , just don't have a job as i've just come back from travelling and happily enough I have loads of money left over :-)

you'll be fine - i got a £35 a month, 18 month contract before i went to uni and i didn't even have a credit card at the time!

successfully finished that contract and now i've got another one :p
