My contract is finishing on the 10th with o2 after two years and currently have a Samsung S2 that continues to serve me well, and is in mint condition due to it being housed in a casemate toughcase.

I pay £22 per month for 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data.

What should I push for/expect in the form of an upgrade, S3 S4? considering my current phone is OK should I go SIM only?.

If you're happy with the S2, go SIM only/PAYG. You could stock CM on it for a bit of an improvement too.

What do you actually use?

I moved to 3's 3-2-1 payg tariff (3p calls, 2p texts, 1p per MB data with 150mb data free with each £5 min top up) on 11th November. So far used about £2.40 credit. I was previously on a £16 pm contract with t-mobile. This should save me plenty of money.

Most of my data usage is on Wi-Fi though. Without that it would have cost loads.

This. If you're perfectly happy with your current phone then no point in upgrading, just get on giffgaff or a similar monthly deal and save yourself some money.

I'm in two minds on what to do, I mainly use the phone for texts and internet. Phone calls are nearly non existent and this month alone i've used about 12 minutes in total.

I would love to have a Note 3 and don't mind paying a few extra ££ for it.

Internet would benefit from a higher resolution screen I suppose. I used my other halfs SGS2 today and coming from a 1080p Nexus 5 it was a bit of a shock.

Note 3 looks very nice and has good reviews. Be careful with o2 with their very poor data allowances, the note looks like a device built for some serious streaming and such like.

when contract ends, go PAYG, then choose a contract you like from provider you like, and go through cashback site.
once contract is up and running transfer number from PAYG onto new contract
buy Nexus 5 from Google Play (or 16GB from CPW)
win

Have a look at Virgin Mobile (especially if you're Virgin Media customer already), Tesco Mobile - use O2, so same coverage or even 3 with unlimited data and potential for LTE at no extra cost.

O2 is meh these days.

That is a little bit complicated.

I would like to retain my number and stay on o2 as i've had no problems in 2 years of being with them.

Ok my contract is up as of tomorrow, so far i've been offered (from phones4u)

For £32 per month on a 24 month contract Equates to £768.
Unlimited calls
Unlimited texts
1GB of data
Free Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Free galaxy tab (not bothered with this).

How should I proceed?

I really want a Note 3 for not much more than £22 that I have been paying over the past 2 years.

What are my chances of getting a Note 3 for £22 per month? 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data.

I've already told phones4u to call back tomorrow as i've told them i'm waiting for o2 to get back to me with an offer.

Cheers for that mate, but I would really like to avoid anything on retention.

I think it's worth a call, it won't take much time and sometimes they give you really good offers.

Also keep an eye on hotukdeals, there some real steals that crop up every once in awhile, got my mom a 5s for £22 a month which is crazy, and a Note 3 was very cheap on there before.

EE are currently doing (or were doing) unlimited calls & texts plus 1Gb of data for £15pm. 12 month contract but with anytime upgrade.

 O2 won't budge they say they can only do the current deals on their website.
The lady on chat kept trying to get me to keep my current phone and have another 24 month contract but at a cheaper rate (£17) was paying £22.

No way am I tying myself down again for 24 months with an old phone.

Help!!!!

Was offered,

600 minutes
unlimited texts
750MB of data

£150 credit so I don't pay anything for ~8 months then £17 after.

Don't tie yourself into a contract for 24 months unless you're 100% comfortable with the data limit.

I'd get a SIM only deal from Three, Giffgaff, Virgin or Ovivo and buy the phone outright.

As above! Don't tie down i have a year remaining of mine now on a 1GB cap.. Never exceeded it but iv been close and i wish i had unlimited. My new phones 4g capable also so next year will be awesome

£12 GiffGaff sim only. 250 mins, Unlimited Texts & Data. Get a phone when you really need it.

When I got out of my 24month contract with Vodafone I went from £33 a month on a HTC Desire (600 mins, 1000 texts and 1gb data) and I never used any of the minutes. I spent 5 months on £12 GiffGaff sim and saved enough cash to buy a Nexus 4 outright and carried on my GiffGaff sim.

I paid £289 for the phone and then £12 a month ongoing. £433 for the first year and £144 each year after. Nexus 4 perfectly fine at moment for me. Won't upgrade for at least another year.

I'm in a similar position as the OP, but on Vodafone.

I spoke to them and said i could buy a phone (S4) outright and go to Giff Gaff on a tariff that suits me ideally (high data and low calls / texts), saving over £150 over the 2 years of the contract, they didn't even try to retain my business.

Thats their loss, enjoy your saving!

The best deal I have been offered (with a new phone), is £30 per month with a samsung s4, 600 minutes/unlimited/750 data and a 24 month contract, really wanted a note 3.

O2 don't price match on sim only.

I've got a headache and got nowhere.
