hi,

i wondering if it is possible for me to have a program that allows me to access files etc from my computer as if i was actually sat there. i know there are the options to go into my docs etc form a server but i've seen someone opening doing it through an internet explorer.

has anyone any advice on this, programs etc.

thanks in advance,

Josh

woah that looks cool! and it has a free version. its only basic control i require so is liekly to do the job.

how secure are these things?

i use hamachi and remote desktop (part of windows)

hamachi is made by the same people as logmein, but remote desktop is a 'better' desktop experience than logmein, downside is you have to install hamachi on the pc you want to log in from (ie, internet cafe)

err i'll check that for you tomorrow from somewhere other than a network comp in the house.

all i ahd to do is got to logmein.com, install the software on the PC you want to connect to. i then went ot the other networked comuter in the house and logged onto the site where i had to give an email address, password and then a system password. you then have a tool bar down the left hand side where you can either view as if your sat in front of the screen or browes files etc.

i amzed the GF when i started to move stuff around the desktop when she was on my computer. hehe

btw if you have dual monitors like me and wonder where your screen space has gone there is a button at the top to switch between primary and secondary monitors.

i'm in school till about 5 tomorrow as i have a meeting but will have a go at school to log on which is a heavily screened network (for the kids sake although they still manage to find the bad stuff lol), if i can get on there you can get on anywhere. i think it asked to install an activex component twice on the first time i logged in.

think you may need logmein pro to do drag and drop.

Need More? Try LogMeIn Pro or IT Reach
• Remote Sound Hear email notifications, check web based voice mail or listen to music and podcasts from your host computer
• Drag & Drop Seamlessly drag and drop files and folders between connected PCs
• Sharing Share files or photos instantly with others, even those too large for email
• Remote Printing Automatically print files from your remote PC to your local printer
• Direct Connect Save time and clicks by going directly from the My Computer's page into a remote control or file transfer session
• Mini Meeting Invite a colleague or friend to your PC for an online meeting; view only or full control
• File Transfer Move files quickly between PCs
• File Sync Synchronize files and folders on both PCs in seconds
• Drive Mapping Access drives on your remote PC as if they were local
• Quick Clips Short format how to video clips on LogMeIn features and functions

it seems i have pro on trial for 30 days

LogMeIn is great, as is GoToMyPC have used both extensively.

I've also played around with Hamachi a bit and while potentially more flexible I've found it to be a pain in the backside. It doesn't traverse firewalls well and requires you to have it installed on BOTH machines in the connection.
