As the title says, I'm wondering if this is possible with any apps.

It would mainly to be used to change music and put on a new film when I can't be bothered getting up from the couch... Very lazy, and I could just buy a wireless mouse but thought this was worth a try first.

My computer is wired to my router, it doesn't have a wireless card. Help me out!

Tried Gmote, it's not bad but not quite what I'm looking for. Will check out Android VNC, that sounds better, thanks Robbie. Edit - Do you have a link? There seems to be quite a few, but none called "Android VNC" unless I'm being daft...

Mmm, I like the idea of a VNC but the one Robbie suggested is very very slow (using TightVNC on my PC) and totally messed up dual screens. Got no image on my TV when connected (I watch a lot of things on the telly).

with pc monitor you can wake up and suspend the PC(so you dont have to get up from your bed to do that)
XBMC is a media library like thing which you have to install in the PC and phone and then you can suspend, shutdown, reboot and exit fron the program using the phone as a remote.
If you want VLC there is a VLC remote in the Android market as well.

I have not found a media player that supports an android remote functionality with WOL functions as well, thats why I am using 2 apps.

I wish smartphones had IR tech as a standard feature. I'm sure there would be a plethora of 'Universal Remote Control' apps that would be of great use to people with AV set-ups and lots of components.

OP might want to try LogMeIn Ignition.

TeamViewer is free. Would be better!
