Conversion

You can pick up a converter that you use with your pc for around £50 or you can get a VHS DVD player combo, the latter is quite a bit more expensive though.... You can also send them off and get them done but I think it's around a fiver per vhs

Converter is the easy part, but how do you connect it all???

buy one of these Diamond Video Capture VC500 about £25
plug vhs player in one end, plug the other end in your pc and it converts tapes to a format you can burn to DVD, Easy:)

Why not just give it to a professional company to do?
A lot of photographic/printing shops do it for reasonable prices. Then you're not left with conversion equipment you'll probably never use again or have to mess about selling.

Well a cheap capture card can be had for under £8.

How much would it cost to have it done?
