The company I work for have 100 MAK keys for Win 10 Enterprise.

I don't see any mention of KMS in the VLC.

I also don't see any Key Management Service Host download in the Microsoft Volume License Center.

Can I still set this up using a KMS host?

Still need to get to the bottom of this.

I need to deploy both Win 10 and Office 2016 on the network.

I've done this before in my previous company for Office 2013. I downloaded the Key Management service host and installed it on the kms using the GVLK key.

In my new company on their Volume license Center I can see the same for Office 2016. So that should be fine.

However the keys still say MAK.

Windows 10 on the other hand, I cant see any Key Management service host download and the keys are indeed MAK a well.

I understand from this website that I can use the GVLK key and register it on the KMS server. But there is no Key Management Service host in our VLC to download.

There are instruction on here how to register the GVLK key on the KMS. So I dont know what the Key Management Service host download is on the VLC. Maybe it just applies to Office.

Also how will the Office 2016 clients know to activate against the KMS server?

Oh and just to complicate things further, the KMS host we currently have is a Win 7 Enterprise VM.

At the bottom of this page, it goes on to say you cant activate of Windows 10 if you are running a KMS host on any of the following operating systems:

Windows Vista
Windows Server 2008
Windows Server 2003

I wonder if that includes Win 7.

2008/Vista is not supported

2008 R2/Win 7 is however I would put them on a server if at all possible. If you must use Win 7 then use a VM.

All Volume License versions off Office will look for the VLSC DNS entry in you local DNS for the domain they are installed on. From that they will resolve where the servers/s are.

To get the KMS keys (assuming you are even licensed for them) you may need to call Microsoft.

Yep. I have called them today and got my KMS key.

Q. I ran slmgr.vbs /ipk xxxxxxxxxxxxxxkey

I received a you have successfully installed this key and when I run:

slmgr.vbs /dlv under description it shows:

Windows Operating System - Windows(R) 7, VOLUME_KMS_W10 channel

I'm guessing that means success? :p

The KMS key only goes in one place: the KMS server. If you've already installed the KMS key on a bunch of workstations, you're going to have to call Microsoft to ask them to remove those activations, as I think a KMS key has a maximum of 10 activations before it won't activate any more.

On all your Workstations you have to convert them to KMS Client mode, by installing the generic KMS key for the particular operating system:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612867(v=ws.11).aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Note that by default an Enterprise version of Windows is in KMS Client mode by default. Anything else will need to be converted by installing the generic key as above.
