Whilst having the fan on at full blast and having to put the television up so it can be heard at the end of the street, I started looking at buying some wireless headphones.

I'm quite happy with my Grado headphones. Is there any decent receiver/transmitter setup that I can use them with so I can go wireless? I want to plug in a transmitter into my AV amp but I'd like to be able to use it with other devices. Also I would prefer RF to bluetooth to minimise lag.

There isn't much choice as most (if not all) wireless senders will require mains power, or will be video as well. You would really need the receiver to work off battery, otherwise you are still tethered. Even then, you still have the headphone cable connected to a box. Not exactly wireless.

Buying wireless headphones is going to be a lot less hassle, but you're going to have to spend a fair bit to get anything worth having.

Thanks. This explains why I couldn't find anything suitable!

I think I'll look into wireless headphones. What sort of price is a wireless headphone set that is worth owning?

Probably Sennheiser RS170 at around £140, or RS180 for £170. They do some cheaper models for less than £70, but the RS170 and 180 are certainly a big improvement. I just noticed they also have a RS160 model for about £110. Wasn't aware of that model until now. Pretty good reviews for those, so might be a good choice if you didn't to pay what the more expensive models cost. RS160 and up use digital wireless technology, rather than RF, which is much more prone to interference. There is also a 220 model, but they are double what the RS180 cost.

I bought some Sony RF ones years ago for £50, and they were rubbish. They had about as much clarity as listening to music with your head in a bucket of water. They kept dropping signal as well.

Thanks Marsman :) I've just had a look at some reviews and I don't think I'd be happy with anything less than the RS180. Now to convince myself the cost is justified!
