Okay, so I have a Nikon D3200 and absolutely no sites will allow me to upload the RAW format it takes so I need to convert them. Storage and size is not an issue and I want to keep as much quality as possible but be able to easily upload it to Facebook/Flikr.

What program is the best to do this?

I personally use Photoshop and just save them as .jpeg with highest quality. You could perhaps use Photoshop and create an action although I'm sure there's an automated program out there.

Export your photo to JPEG at 800x600 is sufficient for most online places if the only purpose is to view. 1200x800 at most, it doesn't need to be any bigger in most cases.

No expert in RAW files but I am pretty sure Adobe Bridge opens these files. Whether it can save files as JPG etc I can not say but worth a try.

Mind you having said that if you have Adobe Bridge installed no doubt Photoshop would be installed also and this can open RAW and save in other formats.

Hope this helps.

The software that came on the disc with your Camera should allow you to convert Raw to JPEG files.

Failing that try RawTherapee which is a free RAW converter - bit like Lightroom.

The official website can be found at

http://www.rawtherapee.com/

It comes in Windows and Mac 32bit and 64bit and there are also versions for Ubuntu and Gentoo.

It is apparently a very capable program.

If you're not intending to do any processing there's no point in using RAW. Infact you will probably get better images using JPEG since the camera will sharpen and do some basic optimisation.

I export to 100% jpeg 1000x800 because for some reason Lightroom is the only photo software in the world that does not support the standard png format.

Unfortunately Facebook will take a giant turd on your photographs, the quality can be shocking after uploading them there!

I'm pretty sure PNG is optimised for logos and buttons not photographs which is why it probably isn't supported. It is after all the replacement for gif.

It's a real shame what facebook does to images, I prefer Flickr, but I end up using both since it's easier to get the images seem by people of Facebook.

Lightroom. You can upload directly from lightroom as well. Photoshop isn't really needed for general photography these days anymore imo, free apps like gimp are sufficient on the rare occasion you need more. Also could try PS elements..

If you are after a quick and simple way to edit, google's picasa will happily do this for you; it's no lightroom mind, but for speedy, bulk processing and easy use (and free) it's a useful tool. ;)
