Hi all I have some films that are in .ts format
I want to convert them to be able to watch on my xbox, having a little trouble finding a program to do it though.

They are various forms of hi-def and they are ALL multiple files.
I want a single fil, playable on xbox.

what have you guys got ?

James

My media PC records HD tv shows in TS file format
I then use a util that comes with the haali splitter to convert them straight to mkv

Can the xbox play mkv ?

Yes indeedy ts are indeed mpeg file BUT they have extra error correction
info that bloats the size by about another 30%

That is the main reason I convert them to mkv (stripes this out) , to make it a lot smaller

Tried handbrake last night.
Not 100% sure what I am doing with it though tbh.
First time I ran it with the slider at 100% it gave me an ETA of 6 hours (Q6600 3Gb ram) so i left it overnight and it created a 200+Gb file. so set it at 50% and left it going all day, came home and it had reduced 4.2 Gb to 1.2 and the quality wasnt very good :S

What kind of file size should I be aiming for and should it really take 6 hours+ ???
this film is the smallest one at 6Gb and only 2 files but the rest are around the 10 - 15Gb mark and 3 - 4 files.

i usually convert avi files with dvd flick.
albeit, the avi file is usually around 1gb.
you need to get it at 4.5gb-4.7gb (dvd size)
it usually takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs with a puny E3300

lurkio - the box cant play mkv, however my friend uses a program that converts mkv for use with the box, so far I have only tried one file that i converted using the haali splitter and it wouldnt work.

bells - I cant find a program called convert x, only convert x todvd ???
panmaster, tsmuxer seems to work fine, however when i try and rebuild an mkv using mkvmerge it gets more and more out of sync as the film goes one. although the mkv file itself seems to be in tact.

thanks for the help so far guys :)
