Hi all,

Bought a flat off plan that's nearing completion in mid August. Unfortunately, it was too late to upgrade the spec on the velux windows.

The windows that have been installed are manual open/close but have electric blinds by remote and also by a switch on the wall next to the main light switch. This would obviously lead me to believe there is a mains power supply up to the window itself.

My question is, I've come across rain sensor/electric open and close conversion kits on the Screwfix website and similar. Does anyone know much about these?

I always have windows open when I'm at home and sleeping. I can definitely see myself leaving it open during a thunderstorm by accident - rain sensor and indirectly electric opening and closing is a must.

Cheers in advance!

Sorry, I've not come across the kits but most likely you have standard sized Velux so swapping them out for electric wouldn't be too difficult. Getting power to the windows would be most people's issue so at least that's covered already.

Plus you could probably sell the ones you have now.

I wish we'd gone for electric but our Velux are unusual size and they don't do electric to fit, plus local planning regulations are ridiculous here and I'd have to pay 1/2 the cost of the windows just to apply for them to consider allowing the change, which they would probably reject for some stupid reason. Not that I'm bitter or anything :/

is the roof completely finished already?
I would guess that it's a change in the spec the developer doesn't want to responsible for the fitting and snagging...

not seen a kit that looks good tbh - that's going to be the biggest issue, you could just try to remember to close them if it's about to rain!

have had non electric veluxes for years and as long as you leave them only just open when your out or in bed you get plenty of air flow and we've never had any significant rain in
