Convince me NOT to buy a 8800GT ;)

I'd better get this POS out of my machine now then! ;)

I've been testing my two at home for more than a week, and have no such issues?

I guess like any GPU, it's the luck of the draw. We've all had rogue/duff hardware in the past I'm sure.

The cards are good just the stock cooling isnt upto much i would fit this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-053-TR&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=787 :)

Using the GTX version my card sits at 50c in crysis

I'm not sure that would work in my SLI setup, and there is no way I'm dropping the best part of £70 on aftermarket coolers for only a percieved benefit!

I agree it isn't as good a cooler as the old 8800GTS/GTX, but with good case cooling, they seem ok.

The thermal limit on the G92 is higher than the G80 anyway is it not?

Buying extra cooling defeats the object of the cheap, powerful card - if I decide to add that, I might as well pay the extra 20-30 for a GTX/GTS :)

If its only leadtek getting the better cooler, I might take a pass, as I do want any new card to last a year or two. My current card is starting to get a little flakey, hence another reason Im interested in the GT, might travel down the innappropriate sounding shop on sunday and see whether they'll take my card, and order then if they do.

Sounds good, just useing common sense the card will last longer at 40c load than 90c +

Again, can you back this kind of statement up?

What kind of time frame are we talking?

30 vs 20 years? 5 vs 4 years? 2 vs 1 year?

I've read a couple of technical reports on electromigration in CPU's that talks of it's lifespan being reduced by higher voltages, but not by temps.

Got any sources? I'm genuinely interested in this by the way, not being argumentitive.
