Incredibly dull subject. Is there really that much difference between £100 and £250 cooker hoods? Appreciate there's some difference - noise, extraction rate etc, but does that really justify the price difference?

And any recommendations on just a bog standard stainless steel straight chimney?

Not really, controls may differ but not much else does.

The motor obviously generates noise but this can be made worse by poor installations, the extraction pipe for example being curved to tightly.

Also performance will tail off the more bends you have in the extraction pipe.

IIRC, Rangmeaster have a hood that is almost silent, the problem is it spins so slowly it takes 24 hours to exchange the air in the room.

I've got a rangemaster one, partners the 110 professional plus cooker. I got a bit pee'd off with it as if you cook anything greasy'smokey and loads of smoke appears I thought it would deal with it. When you actually read the instructions it says it's not there to remove smoke/steam but rather to extract odours and smells!
