Hey guys

I made a thread recently about how to cook steak! Ever since, I've been looking up cooking recipes and such.

I'm 20 and it's about time I learnt how to cook some decent meals.

I was wondering if anyone could

A) Recommend some dishes for a beginner?

B) Give general tips!

Hmm, it's unlike me to make vocabulary fails :(

Thanks for the links.

Hey, this is GD, forget the thread and your intent for it, first I must point out your mistakes and rub your face in it!

On another note, the best advice I can give is to keep your cupboards stocked with spices and herbs, as in my experience you can turn even beans on toast into a feast with the right spices!

Tips -

make sure you book white meat properly
salad is all in the dressing
find a nice butcher for your red meat
season well will change a meal

get your portions right too, its easy to over do it and get fat!

I'm not even sure on what the term 'book' means

Seasoning? Isn't that just salt and pepper :p

Sure thing, any recommendations?

Well to be honest there are hundreds of recipes online, you don't even need to shell out for a book. Always best to print em out, follow the recipe to the letter the first few times and just start to experiment with different ingredients.

Start with something you enjoy eating. Do you like spaghetti bolognaise with home made garlic bread? It's hard to mess this one up. As said, there are hundreds of recipes on the web. Look for a basic recipe and give it a go. The worst that can happen is that you miss a meal but you will still have gained experience. Nobody cooks perfectly every time (there may be a few here who claim to though!! :D).

good choice you really cant go wrong with stew, just bung it all in and cook the bugger. It always comes out edible at least :D

I have a steak left over as well and royally screwed that up last week by doing 3 mins each side so going to reduce it to 2 mins per side and see how that turns out :)
