Cooking Chicken

Will be fine. The chicken will go a bit rank probably but will be safe.

Pretty sure food poisonings a myth anyway:p

Yep I do this all the time. I try to leave it out as long as possible to defrost but sometimes I don't have time. Cook anything all the way through and it's fine.

I defrost mince beef, minced turkey and minced steak this way. I remove the meat from the outside as it defrosts.

I've cooked fish cakes from frozen and I'm still alive. I use a george foreman grill so it gets a royal blasting of heat on both sides.

should be fine just make sure its defrosted properly before cooking it.

I've read before that you shouldn't defrost it by running it under cold water

Fish shouldn't be defrosted under running water, as the flesh is really delicate and will damage easily (and cook if you use anything other than cold water). Won't kill you, just be rank.

Pretty much all meat is ok to defrost and cook straight away as long as it's well cooked. It's just a shame you'll lose pretty much all the decent taste / texture by doing so :(

It's perfectly fine. I would never have done it until I moved in with the wife, who does it all the time. Chicken, minced beef, pork chops, whatever. She'll defrost in the micro, even to the point where it looks partly cooked, and finish in the pan. I was terrified the first few times but after a few years of it I've not had poisoning yet! :D

what you don't want to do is to start cooking it when you are defrosting it though, as the chicken will get really dry and tough when you cook it and technically you're cooking it twice which isn't great. The under water thing does work, make it lukewarm water and put the chicken in a sandwich bag and it will defrost it without cooking it.

I was just wondering if its okay to defrost frozen chicken breast in the microwave then cook it straight away in a pan. Dont want to get salmonella

Put the microwave on a defrost setting and keep rotating the chicken.

I find the ends tend to get cooked before the middle thaws, but it is still very safe and much safer than trying conventionally cooking chicken from frozen.
