Got a few people coming round later, what can I cook them?!

It has to be either fish, chicken or lamb.

Normally I'd do something like a moussaka or fish pie as I can just bung it all in a dish and its easy to time... Maybe a veggie canneloni? Bit boring though...

Any other ideas? I feel like the above are a bit wintery! The simpler the better, but gotta taste good.

Depends on how much time / money you want to put into this.

For me with the limitations above I would go with something like this:

Roast rack of lamb - french trimmed
French Potatoes - layers of softened onions and sliced potato, covered in stock and baked.
Carrots - finished off with a little bit of sugar and butter
Cabbage / Brocolli - steamed.

Takes a bit of prep but once its done its dead easy to cook and tastes fantastic.

An alternative dish using chicken would be garlic and lemon chicken.

Get the chicken into goujouns, quarter a load of lemons, chuck in some garlic cloves, place some cherry tomatoes on the vine in the dish, cover in a good glug of olive oil and bake. The tomatoes tend to burst a little and you end up with a wonderful sauce that you can dip crustry bread into.

Mmm one of my friends is indian though (hence the meat restrictions!) and he's currently curry champ. Don't think I can take him on! Pizzas could be fun...

I'm guessing that just means no beef then. As a post or two above says, you could get a roast on though again that is wintery. I think that's the trouble, the best dishes (or the ones that require the most effort anyway) tend to be like that.

I'd be doing a decent bengali fish curry with pilau rice and all the trimmings.

Currys always taste best in the summertime. Take on the challenge I would.

If you wanna wimp out of a challenge I'd do something like a morrocan lamb tagine with lemon and corriander cous cous.

Bar - Never cooked a rack of lamb, bit expensive too;) Thanks though

garlic chicken sounds good, Maybe with some nice salading and chipped potatoes?

Efour - We have a winner!

I get around - I'll pass on the curry;) He cooked one for us last week as well. Also, I'd have to go and buy a ton of spices.

Tagine would be nice but we all had that last week too!

Currently thinking a chicken pie maybe...

A big chilli with sour cream, cayenne pepper, a few sausages and rice

Last night me and 2 housemates had a curry night. Big pack of chicken breast (£4), madras sauce, rice, a pepper, mango chutney, chilli poppadoms and 6 garlic nan breads (just ate 1 each) Came to just over £9, way huge and very tasty.

Also played some bollywood tunes off youtube!

My stomach is knackered now though :(

Could always do a Terry Tibbs style meal like he did on come dine with me. Massive prawn cocktail, Thai massage then a HUGE steak and chips for main. Followed by "the finest Ukranian fireworks" which also set the house and Alpa on fire. haha
