Cooking with Jonny69: Corned Beef Hash

I'll have to try this, my mum always chucks the potatoes and corned beef into gravy which makes it into more of a soup. Tastes good but your method sounds better.

My corned beef hash is done with mashed potato. Cook some baked beans and add cubes of Corned Beef. Mash potatos up and get an ovenware bowl. Put the corned beef + beans in the bottom, top with mashed potato and cook in the oven until the top of the potato has gone nicely cripsy. Serve

Another vote for Windles recipe :D

While were on it then heres a GOOD bolognaise - created from the random "so, what have we got in the fridge/cupboard" type moments - these have always resulted in experiementation and awesome food as a result:

1) as much mince as you want - couple of pounds (as in lb) works
2) good sized onion
3) good splash of worcester sauce/hendersons relish
4) oxo cube
5) Thyme (good 5 finger pinch of)
6) chill/cayene powder (small pinch of)
7) salt (taylor to personal tastes - but teaspoon worth probably about right)
8) 1/3 small jar of tomato pesto
9) tin of chopped tomatoes
10) good amount of garlic paste/salts/pressed garlic
11) half a small cup of water (obviously vary with amount of mince)

rough cut the onions down to fairly fine chunks and start softening in large pan with a little oil. Add and brown the mince, add the tomatoes, give it a stir, throw in the rest, keep it moving for 5/10 mins then turn the heat right down. Add the water, stir again then leave for about 20 mins, stiring occasionally.

Kill the heat and sort the pasta to go with, as pastas getting close heat the mince etc back up.

Seriously tastey :D

It's strange. When my dad makes it at home I don't like it. I'll eat it if there is absolutely nothing else in to eat but I don't enjoy it.

When my dad makes it while we're camping I love it! We usually demolish a whole loaf of bread between the 4 of us too :D Really don't understand why I dislike it at home, but love it while camping. Tastes the same I'm sure.

Maybe I'm just weird :(

Are we talking small tin or big tin? Might try this tonight.

Thanks.
It's the 88p sized tin in Sainsburys, medium sized tin but add as much meat as you want :D

I'm liking the other recipies coming out the woodwork here which I'm going to try. Can't wait to post some other recipies of my own and get some variations. Good work chaps.

can a version of this be made with rice instead of potatoes?

has anyone tried this with the sliced variety of corned beef i.e. from a deli?
Don't know, I'm feeling a clash of textures with the rice and the corned beef. You could omit the corned beef and make a kind of Spanish fried rice, add a little chicken stock to the rice when you boil it and fry it up with the onion, garlic and chorizo and a small handful of cooked peas, then just before you serve give it a quick squeeze of lemon.
