Hey guys,

So I was bored last week and came across pimp that snack much like Azza in his buttons thread. So I decided to make a giant Jaffa cake!!! Woo :D

It’s pretty simple to be fair all you need is......

Ingredients:
  • 6 eggs
  • 340g of self-rising flour
  • 340g of caster sugar
  • 340g of unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp. of baking powder
  • 2 packets of jelly
  • 1 pint of water
  • 1 orange - (need the juice from it)
  • 200g of 70% cocoa dark chocolate
  • 100g of dairy milk chocolate
  • (Couple of splashes of milk)

Equipment
  • mixing bowl
  • scales
  • preferably an electric whisk
  • small pan
  • a large frying pan/small based pan with a wide area capable of being put in the oven
  • small based bowl
  • plate

So first step is to chop all of your butter up and bang it in a mixing bowl followed by the sugar.....

You need to cream this together so it’s lovely and fluffy

now add the baking powder, flour and eggs and mix well, as I say preferably an electric whisk but i did it by hand and a spoon  (probably a good time to turn the oven on now to 180)

Now make sure the final mix is all soft and creamy and runs of the spoon smoothly

Now get your big pan grease it up with butter etc. I used grease proof paper as well, it makes removing it a hell of a lot easier! And pour in the mixture.

And then bang it in the oven! And keep an eye on it!!! Roughly 15-20 minutes.

Ok so now while this is in the oven, get the 2xjelly packs and peal the orange.

Split the cube’s and bang it in a microwave-able bowl, add 200ml of boiling water stir it and then put it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes (DEPENDANT ON POWER RATIO).

Then add a pint of cold water and mix. After this squeeze the orange and get as much juice out of it as possible into the jelly mix again.

Now pour it into the small based bowl and put it in the fridge to set. (This will take about 2 hours)

Take the cake out after its 20 minutes (make sure it’s bouncy on top) and get it out of the pan, now leave it till the jelly is ready.

Ok so here they are both together. Now my cake had risen slightly in the middle.

So i cut the top off so it had a flat layer.

Ok so now to get the jelly out of the bowl. Flip it upside down and onto a plate. And pour boiling water on the top of it until you hear it pop out, or see the bowl lift up.

Now pop it onto the cake and its chocolate time now people!!!!!

Ok so I totally messed this up and I ate the dairy chocolate :p I tried to make do with what I had but it didn't work. So, I re-did it again with the same amount and it did work just with different less darker chocolate. But the same principle applies. (So there are no photos of the second attempt)

Get a small pan and set the hob on a low heat.
Splash of milk till its simmering
Slowly start adding the chocolate bit by bit till it’s melted
The liquid will eventually become really think (don't let it boil)
Pour graciously over the Jaffa cake :D and spread over the top.....

And woo, we have a Jaffa cake... probably a good time to put it in the fridge for the chocolate to set :D

Then serve with custard :D

On a serious note there is a hideous amount of sugar in this, so I do warn you :)

Good effort! On a side note, did you know McVities once made a giant Jaffa cake to prove it was indeed a cake in court (and therefore exempt them from the luxury tax which applied to biscuits)?

I once made a giant piece of toblerone for that site, weighing 1.5kg :p
