Cooking with Marky: Aloo Gosht

The ultimate curry bible is excellent, have tried a couple of recipes from there! The only thing it doesn't have is her rogan josh, which is a shame. The chicken kadhai is quick and tastes great from that book too.

Conversely her curry made easy book I don't rate as highly, unfortunately to make a good curry she has proven that it takes a bit of time and by cutting corners has worse results.

I gave this a try last night, with a view to eating it this evening as I dont have any time to cook tonight.

The recipe is pretty simple, though I found the the cooking times would need to be quite a bit longer as there was so much water added during the course of the recipe.

As I was using af airly cheap cut of lamb which was quite fatty when I got to the final steps I decide to bung the lot into my slow cooker and leave it slowly cooking away overnight. with the amount of water added there was plenty of liquid to allow me to lave it over night.

This morning I woke to find it nicely reduced down and thick and yummy looking. Nothing like waking to the aroma of a lovely curry!

Gave it a quick taste this morning, it really is a lovely, lovely dish and I'd certainly recommend giving it a try.

I'm really looking forward to eating it this evening.

I was not impressed with this one at all.

No flavour at all up front, but a slight heat at the back. The potatoes went totally overcooked (as did the meat) by the time the sauce had thickened. I may have done something wrong, but it's a pretty simple recipe, seems like it needs an awful lot of water too!

I actually thought this had great flavour. Maybe helped along by my decision to stick it in the slow cooker over night. The sauce was nicely spicy with the taste of the lamb in there too, with a good bit of heat at the back.

To make sure the potatoes don't just turn ot ush, make sure you don't over stir while it's cooking.

Mine was in the slow cooker for about 8 hours and the potatoes were perfect!

Someone posted up a link to a curry forum a couple of years ago. It was really good, dose anyone remeber it?
