Hi Everyone,

Quick question, I have a Maxtor One Touch Mk2 with a Maxtor 250Gb hard drive. It has always worried me how hot to the touch the casing gets, to the point I try hot to leave it on for long periods. After an indecent with it where I lost all my data on it I have decided this hard drive is no longer reliable (not sure it ever was!!). I want to change the hard drive inside (keeping the same enclosure) but I want to change it for something cooler and more reliable.

Could you guy's tell me in your opinion which hard driver manufacture makes the coolest hard drives (I’m really not bothered about noise)

It needs to be a IDE hard drive, i've seen this one:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 300GB ST3300622A ATA-100 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-068-SE)

Any good??

The seagates are very good but if you ask everyone then people will have drive failures from all brands. I had a seagate die and it was replaced within a week for a 200gb one (160gb died). Seagates also have a 5yr warranty and are considered one of the most reliable. They are also very quiet

Seagates would probably be your best bet for an external box. I've just had one fail on me but don't let that put you off.

BTW ted34 did you RMA the drive directly to Seagate or back to the retailer? Also, how come you got a larger drive returned? Mine is an old model so maybe i may get a higher spec one as well :)

Sorry to go off topic.
