what connection are you one mate? and what port do you use for newshosting?

Yeah the speed test only reports about 5mbit for me yet I can download from Giganews or the MS site as an example at 1180KB/sec which is near enough 10mbit.

People on NTL are likely to have varying results as the NTL proxies are crap.

Ukonline 22mb synch at 18.5mb and various ports as speed drastically changes though out the daytime

For those worried about the distance, it may be due to the fact that many adsl isps have their 'first visible hop' in London where the central pipe terminates. So when that site tries to determine your location, that's what it comes up with.

It's one reason why people living closer to the capital tend to get lower pings, since often all the traffic has to go through London regardless of where the final destination is. E.g. if I pinged my next door neighbour, it would go via London and then back here, even if he had the same ISP as me.

I never knew that!

I suppose it makes sense ;)

I'd imagine it's based on the whois data, though Zen terminate their Centrals in Rochdale, and Rochdale still is neither 127mi nor 27mi from London - so I'll stand by my assertion that it's screwed :p
