My water coolant temp is hitting nearly 50c when under load and about 38-39c when idle. Does this seem normal?

Setup

2x 420mm 30mm thick alphacool rads

i9 7900x @4.6ghz 1.2v (Delidded)

gtx 1080ti light overclock of 120MHz

1x EK-XRES 140 Revo D5 PWM Cooling Pump

I am currently running the fans at 800rpm

Actual water temp ?

A water temp of 38 when idle is pretty high, it should be vaguely close to room temp ... So how hots the room ?

No I get much better temps with less radiator surface area. Mine sits at about 3-4 degrees above ambient on idle and about 10 degrees above at full load. Where is your temp sensor located and do you have air in your system?

No your case isn't the issue. How are you measuring the water temp? Have you got any air locks in your system?

You should have ample cooling capacity with 2 420mm rads. I have 2 x 240mm and a 120mm and as we speak my ambient is 24.4 degrees and water temp is 27.9 degrees with the fans running at 571rpm, all measured using an Aquaero. You should have better temps than me.

Ambient temp is 28-30, maybe the case is too restrictive, i have a Be quiet Dark Base 900 Pro

Pump is running at 3400rpm

For testing open the door on the front, I remember one of the reps on here getting that case and the door is that restrictive on his loop it was adding 5c whilst closed.

I just noticed he is running a I9 7900x over clocked...
I presume we are all comparing to our skylake cpus etc.

might that be partly the issue?

If your room temp is 30 then 38 Idle is a tad high, does it come down lower if left idle for longer?

Remember room temp if small area might be changing all the time.

50c at load would seem indicate you have no massive glaring issues as if there was a fault that would be a lot higher.

Do I9 just run THAT hot .. ?

Load temps under gaming at 4.6ghz - 1.2 volts are with both panels on

CPU:60c-64c
GPU:52c

Going to run the same test with front and top panel removed

A quick test shows that at idle with both panels removed the coolant temp is 29c-30c down from 38-40c

Wow that’s quite a difference and where you would expect it to be.

So does your case have panels covering the rads then? Seems a strange way to design a premium case.

Just had a look a yes that top panel would defiantly restrict the air exhausting through the top tad. Seems like form over function. A least it was a nice easy fix for you :)

A very big difference indeed.

Load temps with the side panels of are:

Ambient Temp: 28-29
Coolant Temp: 36.5-36.8
CPU:49-53
GPU:45-46

Sadly the 900 shouldn't have been marketed as a watercooled pc case, it'll work fine for a AIO setup but custom loops really struggle with the lack of decent airflow.

You need to be very careful with water temps that high as most tubing and components are only rated to 60 degrees C maximum. I have seen some only rated to 50 degrees C. Run it with the panels off untill you can replace the case.

Phanteks Enthoo primo would take both of your current rads and won't be much bigger than your current case.
