OK... I'm making a short story long so please bear with me.....I had intended to simply replace and upgrade the mobo and cpu and memory and add a few peripherals ( SSD, extra HD and quite possibly a GPU ) to my existing case etc and may still do that or more than likely start over and build a completely new comp when I can eventually overcome my ambivalence and decide on which mobo and cpu/apu I want to go with, which will give the upgrade/new build legs to keep going for a while which I guess will be Ryzen based.
However, whichever way I go I will need a second computer and the current AMD Phenom 11 955 and mobo, ram etc from my 2011 build, although old are still working well and together with a spare case I have, if I add a sound card and extra ram will more than meet my needs for the use I will have for it BUT the existing stock cooler which originally came with the CPU makes a noise like a train ( known for it apparently) when it's been running for a while and on a hot day the sound wouldn't be out of place in a workshop which is no good for the use I will have for it which is primarily a bit of music editing via DAW, recorded on my 24 track machine.
So can anyone suggest a cheap retro-fit cooler solution for my old Phenom 11 cpu that will do the job which I can add to my parts list order for my new build? I realise that there are better more expensive solutions but I'd rather put that money into the new build as every time I total up for what I think I want, the budget ceiling keeps getting higher
.
I was thinking something like a Coolermaster 212 et al plus an extra case fan or two might do the job...maybe one of you enthusiasts who had this chip in the past might have the answer and suggest a cooler that will do the job?
Cheers!
