^HAF 912

The newest addition to the popular HAF series is now upon us!

I noticed the HAF range is quite popular with OcUK members and enthusiasts alike, so here's your chance to discuss the latest model. It's a smaller version of what we've seen already, but appears to pack some serious features for its size.

Vortez hardware already have a comprehensive review up on their site, so check it out as there's a lot more info than on the Cooler Master site and shows the Plus version rather than the regular (If there is such a thing). The first difference I noticed was that the Plus appears to have black internals unless Cooler Master haven't finalised their website yet.

The case is expected to arrive around mid-September priced at about £65.

Could be a winner? Share your thoughts.

Not so keen on it's asthetics but may be an ideal replacement for my Antec 300 later on in the year when I hopefully upgrade my PC to something with a bit more power.

The looks will, like the rest of the series, divide opinion somewhat. I think I'm warming to them though, this one is a bit more subtle.

It would make an ideal upgrade from something like an Antec 300 though.

Me want! Me want NOW!

Edit: Quoted from bit-tech: The HAF 912 won't actually be a single product though - there will be a variety of three for different markets: The US will get the vanilla model, which costs an impressively low $59 MSRP but lacks the painted black insides, eSATA on the front and transparent side panel. In the EU we get the 'Plus' model at an also acceptable $79, which has all the black bits but no window again, and Asia gets the 'Advanced' model at $99 with window and all black inside and out.

Cba converting the currency but for me its either the plus or advanced - it is a bit of a jump in price for a window though unless theyve got double glazing in there.

It looks like the Antec 300 with a bit more attitude.

I still like my 300 just a pitty it's so cramped inside when you add more than one hard drive.

This looks like the case that will easily push aside antec 300. Like the black interior. This case seems to have taken features from it's HAF brothers.

Would love to see all the HAFs side by side :D

Would like to see english pricing though on the plus version to see where it ranks among its competitors. September 14th release apparently.

Very interesting case. I'm not too much a fan of the styling tbh, none of the HAF range really do it for me, but the features on the case make it stand out at an attractive price point. At the very least decent out-of-the-box air cooling plus modular HDD bays will make those with extra-long GFX cards perks up a bit. The main competition at £65 seems to be Xigmatek Utgard and (ironically enough) the CM690-II Lite, neither of which are fantastic for v. long GFX cards.

It's strange. You'd have thought that £55-65 would be a really competitive price point with the Antec300 at <£50 and Fractal Design >£75 but there just doesn't seem to be that many stand-outs. A sad reflection on the state of steel pricing I guess :(.

OTOH, a number of reviews have criticised the lack of USB3 front-panel support. As the standards bodies still haven't got their act together and finalised an internal pin-out, and there are still relatively few devices on the market utilising the higher bandwidth, will anyone feel the absence? No-one's exactly been raving about USB3 support via a back-panel pass-through.

Anyway, thanks for the review links Alex

You make a fair point. In my opinion, most people currently using USB3 in earnest will probably be using a higher end case anyway. The standard still isn't mature enough to make it a 'must-have' on a case front panel yet in my opinion.

What really impressed me was that watercooling is a possibility with this case

"What Cooler Master has done for the first time is drill out four holes on the SSD cage, behind the PSU, as a mount spot for a watercooling pump."

Might make a nice compact watercooling project..

true say...the 3.0 got a longgg way to go

But just remember - USB3 is backwards compatible so it makes sense to have it rather than to not have it. Case manufacturers should be integrating it onto all new releases - especially as the standard hit the market at the beginning of the year!

I assume it keeps the price down though, which makes the case a more attractive prospect to the 99% of people currently without USB3 and short sighted enough not to see a need for it in the immediate future. eSATA might have been a better bet anyway, many more devices use that and it's quick, though a little more faffing is sometimes needed to get it working as it should.

I don't totally disagree though, perhaps we should be seeing it on more cases to push the devices forward too. USB2 has been around a long, long time.
