cooler/power + general upgrade advice

Planning on spending a lot of money on a new PC post-Xmas. The exact amount will depend on how much I have in vouchers and whether they have any sales on, as well as me doing some soul searching. Here's what I have so far:

The way I plan these things is to select what I'd buy if I decide to go all out, then reduce things if not… until it's at a price I feel comfortable with. However, I have no idea what kind of power supply or cooler I need. Any suggestions?

Btw, do Overclockers have any sort of January sales? Also, can I order something not in stock, and just wait until it arrives?

What's the usage?
If nothing more demanding than gaming, 16 core is heavy overkill with CPU getting otherwise old before games need that many cores.
12 core would be golden middle with enough cores for even the most CPU demanding games and also for background stuff.


And that motherboard is total garbage for price/high end PC with CPU VRM copypasted from £100 B450 boards:

Only good X570 MSI out of well priced models is Tomahawk, which is indeed superb for the price.
If not needing Wifi Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite would be also bang per buck model.

Though if not needing lot of storage etc expandability also B550 boards would give everything needed for gaming PC.


Also that memory is serious lackluster for the price.
3200MHz memory limits speed of CPU's internal InfinityFabric bus and that's not even high end CL14 kit.
On that price PC I would expect overclockable top bin Samsung B-die 3200MHz CL14 kit or 3600MHz 16-16-16 kit.
Some 3600MHz CL17 or at least CL18 kit should be the absolute minimum to give higher IF bus speed.

RTX 3090 is another thing not making sense:
Huge price increase for minor performance increase.


That price case really doesn't make sense, unless you're intending to start upgrading parts into it and keep it over multiple PCs.
And certainly wouldn't accept basic 5 year warranty Kolink PSU in such priced PC.
Besides 850W is enough for any single GPU PC, especially with AMD's pretty honest TDP CPUs.

And 120mm radiators are just waste of time.
Most have less surface area than majority of higher end heatpipe coolers.

As just a gaming rig I would build this. Obviously rgb is subjective and doesnt need to be activated. The 011 is a very good case if water cooling.
