After my psu went pop last week I have decided to get a new system and as usual I will be overclocking.

The cpu I am going to get will be an i8700k and I was wondering what cooler I should get to overclock it to 5GHz. I really do prefer air cooling as my old Noctua NHD-14 has served me well and wondered if I could get away with an NHD-15 or should I go for NZXT Kraken?

The rest of specs I have decided on will be

Asus Strix GTX1080Ti
Maximus Hero X
32GB Crosair Vengence LPX
128 M2 SSD
1TB Samsung evo SSD
WD 3TB drive
NZXT 630 case
Corsair/Seasonic 750w Platinum psu

Any advice would be helpful thanks

What Ross said.
NH-D14 is as good a cooler as D15 with same fans and it's stock fans are only about 2c warmer anyway. Makes good sense to use D14.

Between stock TIM application and silicone lottery it's hard to say. I will say D14 cools as well as any top tier cooler out there, including most CLCs at same noise level. We tested NH-D14 and TRUE Spirit 140 power on [email protected] with TY-143 fans that at 1200rpm are about same as stock fans and at 2500rpm gave us 8-9c better CPU temps. But case fans have to be match to cooler fan/s demand for air or case airflow heats up as cooler fans have to use their own heated exhaust .. and each degree warmer air is going into cooler translates to about same degree warmer CPU is.
