Hey guy,

Just bought a new computer and i was woudnering would i need a Cooler for my chip.

Asus Striker II Extreme nForce 790i Ultra SLi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard,

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB),

Thats what ive got, I wont be doing OC'ing becuase i dont know how too. Would it be good to get a cooler? Or leave the stock one on?

Hints :)

I doubt you'll need one. An aftermarket cooler will obviously lower your temps, but if you aren't planning on OCing, you'll be fine with stock.

I would recommend overclocking your CPU, a quick research and a better cooler is all you need, and you'll get a much needed performance boost. But, of course it's your choice. A recent thread turned into a small flaming contest, not about to start the same thing here.

I've got that exact same board and CPU. It is so easy to clock to 3ghz you wouldn't believe it. (But very hard for anything above that with 4 RAM modules).

I have a Noctua cooler, and it keeps my Q6600 at 60 LOAD at 3ghz. (Stressing with Intel Burn).

What RAM are you using? That can have an effect on how easy your overclock would be.

As previous poster said though, if you don't want to OC, then stock cooelr is ok. But I do recommend overclocking to 3ghz, as it is extremely easy.

If you're not overclocking you only need the stock cooler.

If you are it's a good idea.

I'd highly recommend it, it's a brilliant cpu to overclock. I've got an extra GHz out of mine and I can go higher.

Yes, but I know out of experience that clocking a Q6600 on this board is extremely hard. He might be lucky, he might not. Mine was stable with 2 RAM modules, but with all slots filled the NB heated up past 61 degrees and caused bsods and freezes.

The RAM i have on the mobo is

OCZ 4GB DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Platinum (2x2GB) Dual Channel DDR3 (OCZ3P13334GK),

what will this be like? also i have no idea how to OC i would have to research it!
