Ok, so I've had to RMA my H50, and got me thinking - seeing as I purchased the OEM chip looks like I wont be able to use my comp til I get a replacement..

but, the P6T board has hole to mount 775 coolers... and I have a Scythe Mugen from my previous build..

anyway, random question has anyone run a stock Intel 775 cooler on an i7 920?

It's worth a try.

Not sure if there is much difference in the Intel coolers anyway.

If it can run a Core2 at full load then your i7 will be fine at idle or light tasks.

not sure if I will try it tbh, will probably just stick my Scythe Mugen on for the time being..

was just an odd thought

There's a considerable difference in size between the 775 and 1366 stock coolers, I'd be happy trying it but wouldn't want to run a stress test through it even at stock speeds.

If you are just running it at stock, I'm sure the Scythe HSF will do just fine.

Infact, I just googled this cooler, and I would say it should do a decent job, even if you were planning to o/c your chip, that thing is huge!

its so massive its almost a PITA to put on and remove, which is partly the reason I opted for the H50 over an air cooler

well was bored so thought I would try out my theory, with some MX3 and a stock Intel 775 cooler on my stock i7 920 D0.

Did a stress test and it was up to 86 according to RT. Not bad considering the 775 stock cooler looks about half the size of the stock 1366 cooler.

atleast I can surf the net and such
