Hey guys,

So it looks like I'll settle with a Coolermaster 430 for my budget gaming build.
As you already know, one comes with a psu, and the other without.

It's a 500W psu, but I can't imagine it would be safe. I'd be afraid of my system going bust.

What alternatives are there for a PSU?

I'm thinking of something along the lines of:

OCZ StealthXStream 2 600W Power Supply [OCZ600SXS2]

Or are there any other alternatives?

It's to run:

AMD Phenom II X4 955
5850 1GB Graphics card.

Would 600W suffice for the card etc? Or perhaps the 500W supplied PSU?

Thanks.

Hi not sure if this would help you but I was in the same position 2 weeks ago and I was looking for new PSU for my system, the old one was handling the card ok but you always want something better, after reading few reviews on OCZ systems I decided to go for Corsair or Antec they look to be one of the best PSU on marker at least for me anyway and good value for money, the TX series you can buy for good money if you not looking for modular PSU but make sure you have nice big case as the amount of connection with wires you get is huge, system is SLI ready very nice finish and it looks good for the money. I always used basic PSU and never could understand why would some one pay £70 for PSU but now I know, don't forget that you buy this not just for the year think about what you can connect within few years time as this comes with 5 years warranty ;) also offer 53A on single rail .

ta-da!

not too bad, but you also have the XFX Pro 550W Core for around the same price.

The OCZ is manufactured by FSP, and the XFX by Seasonic. Seasonic also provides for Corsairs, and are generally thought to be one of the best designs and manufacturers around.

No matter which way you cut it, you get what you paid for. If you can stretch a little bit, there are better units with more juice around the £70 mark. If you don't want to keep changing your PSU for every build, a 750W Antec / XFX Black / Corsair will serve you well.

But as far as your rig is concerned right now, I think either will do.
