coolermaster V10 TEC

With a card such as the 480, the best way to cool it is with a custom fan profile. The stock fan settings are rather poor tbh, on my 470's with stock fan profile, theyll hit 80c before the fan ramps up. I use a custom profile in afterburner which increases fan speed to 60% at 60c. As mentioned, removing a gpu cooler can be pretty daunting.

Ive watched a couple of indepth videos of how to install the VF3000F cooler for the 480, ive heard nothing but good from those coolers

I'll have a think about it.

It will invalidate your warranty so do think about it first.

I've got a custom cooler (Scythe Setsugen II) on one of my 460's, because the top card was hitting 99C while playing Metro. They're not the easiest things to fit, but it dropped 30C from the load temperature. Your mileage may vary though.

Right ive had a play with the msi afterburner

Core Clock = 824MHz

Shader Clock = 1648MHz

Memory Clock = 1910MHz

Running artifact test, duration = 1 hour = 0 errors on ATITool 0.27

FurMark 1.9.0 - Burn-in test duration = 30 minutes = gpu temp 75C fanspeed 80%, cpu temp 69C Using stock cooler on gtx480 also using stock cpu cooler.

It would seem I need the H60 Cpu cooler and gpu vf3000f cooler to push it further!

Thanks

I don't think you need the graphics cooler. 75C is no problem for a GPU. You only need to start worrying when you are into the 90's.

Update**

Core Clock = 835MHz

Shader Clock = 1670MHz

Memory Clock = 1925MHz

If I go higher than that, when I load the artifact checker on atitool, it says no errors at the bottom next to the timer, but every 2 or 3 seconds yellow dots appear then dissapear... same thing with weird yellow coloured in shapes... does this mean ive hit the cards limit? And a cooler wouldn't do anything to prevent this?

thanks

**edit**
Would I also see much of a performance increase with these settings compared to stock?

Stock settings

Core Clock: 700MHz

Shader Clock: 1401MHz

If you are getting artifacts without overheating then a cooler will not help. You can try increasing the voltage to go further, but be careful with this!

Run benchmarks to see what performance increase you are getting. The Unigine Heaven one is very good. There are also built in benchmarks in many games.

Think ill pass on the voltage increase! I'm pretty happy with this O.C.

Thanks for all your help :)
