Will this fit my Phenom 9850 BE (want to try an overclock) and an i5 / i7? Also what is the performance like compared to an Antec Kuhler H20, Zalman CNPS9900 and the Asus Axe Square and will they fit both processors? Also how much of a difference does thermal paste make? Been getting some prices for a fresh set of AS5 to be delivered (mine's been sat around about 2 years now) and it's coming in at over £10! Don't mind trying a cheaper alternative but will pay full price if it's going to be a worthwhile difference.

Thanks in advance :).

first it comes with back plate fitings for all curent CPU's,
not having the othe coolers you mention i carnt say, but mine keeps my 720be @3.33Mhz(108.75w) 32-33 idle and has never got higher than 42 even after 8 hours of prime.
other than that it is big, mine is in a antec 900, and i only have 5mm gap between the cooler and the window.

Could anyone give me a comparison between the Coolermaster V8, Zalmen 9900 Max and the Asus Axe Square? Tried looking on frostytech which showed the Zalmen beat it, but the Axe Square hasn't been reviewed and is a much cheaper option!

Thanks for the assistance so far :). Also if a mod could rename my topic so it gets a bit more interest, that would be most highly appreciated.

What about?

**Official - most interesting thread ever!! Will a Coolermaster V8 fit my Phenom 9850 BE?**

Coolermaster V8 out the box is fairly average - but quiet - but if you don't mind a bit more noise a fan mod produces excellent results cooling wise.

What sort of results are we talking :)? How would it compare it noise to the Zalman? Not heard managed to find any comparable reviews of the Axe Square so far rather annoyingly, it's the cheapest option but I'd rather buy once and get it right!

Also: does anyone know what sort of speeds a 9850 Phenom BE gets to? 2.5Ghz stock, saw a link to someone who got his to 3.7Ghz, a fair few to 3Ghz. Tbh I'd be over the moon with 3.5Ghz, suppose 3 - 3.2Ghz would be a noticable improvement though? I play some games which only run on 1 core so would definitely benefit from a performance boost.

To be honest I always thought those older Phenom processors were thought of as a bit poor performance wise.

You may find better performance selling your current CPU for around £40 - £55 (using fleabay), and using your budget to get a 2nd hand Phenom II X4 955 for about £65 and a cheaper cooler (Hyper 212+) which will still let you overclock to the max of the CPUs potential without over heating.

I've been reading mixed things on the web too concerning my cpu, some seem to get good results but most seem to struggle. Think you got a good idea there but myself I don't know if I'd want a 2nd hand cpu personally. Certainly something to look at though. Do you know if the Axe Square cooler is any good? Only reason being I think it looks quite nice :P.
