Looking for an aftermarket blower type cooler for a single fan 1660 GTX. Which ones would be compatible? Are the mounting holes the same as 1060 series?

I don't think you can get aftermarket blower coolers can you? Why do you need one, is the old one knackered? Replacement fans are available. I doubt an aftermarket blower would perform better than a stock one.

You may find a used one on the bay.

Was looking at the Akasa Vortexx - the mounting holes are 53mm. Not sure about the precision of my measurements but they seem to be 52-53mm on the 1660

It will perform better in a small case as it will be an extra exhaust fan.

That cooler is 13 years old and rated for cards of 84W TDP. It simply won't keep up with a modern card with any real heat generation.

You may be able to trade cards with someone who has a blower if you're really keen.

Sorry, I missed that post.

I've built a lot of sytem over the years and while what you can is sometimes true, as long as case has decent airflow venting and good intake fans I get great performance (lower noise & similar temps) with conventional cooler. It really depends on if case you are using can be setup to have good airflow. You might find basic guide to how airflow works and how to optimize case airflow in link below of interest:

I assume you know this, but GPU compartment needs at least one vent to let air in to supply blower cooler will the air uses to cool and blows out back of card. No air into compartment means no air out .. simple physics. Only water cooling with full cover waterblock doesn't need much airflow, and even then some airflow usually helps. If using CLC with with waterblock only on GPU chip the rest of card is still air cooled so need airflow.

At least as many compartments are air tight are are not. .. passanger areas of commerical aircraft are air tight, even a card board box can easly be made air tight. Maybe your compartment has enough holes, I don't know. But it need holes about twice as big as blower fan intake opening to not seriously restrict it's airflow. If your compartment doesn't have that much intake area you will likely have cooling problems.

Like I said, it's simple physics airflow science which is named fluid dynamics .. because airflow is all about what comes in must go out / what goes out must come in. Think of your compartment as being under water and the airflow is water your blower fan is moving. How much water can blower move out of box is dependent on that same volume of water entering box. That's why I asked by it's venting. ;)

Never seen a computer case that is air tight ;)

Doesn't make sense what you are saying about having to have holes twice as big as blower fan intake.

You said you are making your case, that's not the same using production case.

Reason for about twice as much vent area as blower intake is blower is pulling hard on that opening vs venting somewhere else. Also vents usually have grills and even the least restrictive grill (round wires in circles) only flows about 70% as much air as an open hole will. Link below shows grills and airflow striction.

Why would I make an air tight case?

If you think of the whole pc as one compartment (which it will be as the GPU will still be in the PC) there will be plenty of air from all the other to compensate for the lack of a dedicated vent.

No idea, and I didn't say you were.

You first said "Custom made case with compartment for GPU so a blower cooler or watercooling are the only options. To me that means a compartmetn insdie of custom case for GPU.

I have tried to be helful, but it appears you thing you know all you need to know.

Good luck!
you will need it
