so i spent Sunday overclocking my I7 950.

the default speed is 3.06ghz and i have managed to get it stable at 4.2ghz.

when gaming it reaches 68C and idles around 48 - 50C, was playing CSGO for a good few hours last night and no issues.

my current CPU cooler is

i was thinking AIO but not too sure if they will give me much difference in temps, is there anything i could do to my current cooler? cpu fan runs at 1800rpm

other option i quite liked is this but again i dont know if it will be much better than what i already have.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/be-quiet-dark-rock-3-cpu-cooler-hs-008-bq.html

my case is a NXZT S340 and i have a rear fan and top fan which came with the case and 2 x SP120 fans at the front which i was going to use on a AIO which i never bought in the end

depends on the AIO. will definately give you better temps though. my 5930k was 63c with a h100i while gaming from 3.7-4.5ghz. With the same cooler I could overclock my old 3770k from 3.9 (turbo) to 4.8 (turbo) with mid 50s while gaming, the same cooler i overclocked the 3770k to 5.1ghz at 1.55v under 90c in prime95. In winter it actually idled in single digits. If you still want air then noctua do good coolers. The dark rock coolers look pretty good aswell.

id go for the h110i GT or GTX if you can fit it as it is a 280mm radiator and will be better performance than the 240mm 100i gtx. Depends on your budget, both are very good.

if you can top mount it do that. if not just make sure the front isnt too restrictive. I know on those types of cases it can be. So if you get one and mount it to the front try it with both the front off and on to see if there is any differences in performance.

the max i can get in there is 280mm from looking online.

when i received the case it states that the rad should be installed as a pull system only and not push which i didnt know before buying the case.

at the top i can only fit a 1 x 140mm fan otherwise i would have had the rad pushing heat out of there.

think ill go for the H110I gtx, christmas is not far off lol

There are only 2 AIOs that are any good. Neither of them is a CLC. Well, actually there are 5 of them. Swiftech H140-X, H220-X and H240-X and EKWB EK Predator 240 and 360. They are much better than CLC, but also cost more.

As for how CLCs perform compared to to tier air, most reviews are extremely biased toward CLC. Things like testing in a case and not monitoring the radiator / cooler intake air temp, but instead use room ambient .. which is at least a couple degrees different and usually 7-15c different. Kinda funny how the CLCs seem to be abou 7-12c better.

But to get to some proof of the actual differences, CLCs are able to get about the same temps, but are much louder doing it .. like 4-7times as loud. You see, the difference between 35dBA and 45 dBA is 45dBA is twice a loud. and 55dBA is twice again as loud, and 65dBA is twice again. That 2time, then 4 times, the 8times as loud to our ears.

So, here is some data showing some of the differences.

Little more detail is AIO (All in One) cooling systems include CLC (Closed Loop Cooling) with Asetek has patents on. Originally Asetek called them LCLC (Low Cost Liquid Cooler). I class all factory sealed systems as CLC rather than AIO .. even though they are AIO. But Some AIO are not CLC. Systems like Swiftech H140-X, H220-X and H240X as well as EKWB EK Predator are AIO, but not at all CLC. They are components assembled into a system with provision for changing and/or expanding system, adding coolant, changing coolant, etc. These are real water cooling loops, not CLC wanna-bees'. Everything in the CLC loop; pump, waterblock, hoses, radiator, & coolant .. weight about the same as just a bare dry radiator (no coolant, no fittings) used in a real water cooled loop. That is the complete system except for the fans.

Fap per minute?

Get a top tier air cooler, optimize your case airflow and you will have a system as cool or cooler than CLC for less money and quieter as well.

CLCs were wasted money when they were introduced. Nothing has changed, they are still not the same poor quality. Not as overpriced as they used to be, but still overpriced .. but they do have excessive noise to go with their excessive prices. :D
