ok heres a challenge
my p4d 840 is running at approx 65-68c when being caned on oblivion e.g
can i get it cooler on air
i have a zalman 9500 on it with arctic 3
3 hard drives (warmish)
x1900xtx with zalman 900 on that
front 120mm
back 120mm
and a p160 case
hiper 580r also warmish
as i write this with one of the side panels off it has dropped to 47c, but just under the load of IE, some things in the tray.

I think you should consider water. I'm running an Pentium D830 @ 3.6 GHz with giga-byte 3d Galaxy and it hits 50-55 under load and idels at about 30-34 these days with the radiator placed behind the system exhast fan. The thing is that if you run graphics card that do not exhast air directly outside the case things get even hotter i.e. like me running 2 7800GTX 256MB.

If you still want air then some guys here use one called Tuniq I guess, not exactly sure and form reviews its better than the zalman and much bigger. I would also recommend that you add more fans.

Hope this helps... :D

Edit: Just noticed your sig... :D

more fans!
ok i was thinking of drilling out a hole in the top of the case (the heat rising scenario)
any thoughts?

id overlooked the recently added x1900xtx
obviously if ive taken off the stock cooler and put on the zalman then the heat from this is going straight up to the cpu directly above instead of being vented directly out

thinking about it
the temp of the system overall has gone up-as it would, and the extra work the psu is doing must cause some more heat too

id say that would loose any possitive or negative pressure you have in your case... i think it would disrupt the airflow.

so lemme get this straight
your getting 65-68C with a zalman 9500 on it ?
those are mad temperatures !
is it overclocked at all ?

**EDIT** just saw your sig. but even thats not a drastic OC.
think you may be better off going to water ( but not a cheapie kit ) if not what about a ninja ?

and a dual fan radiator.... I'm considering the upgrade myself ;)
Next time when I see 130W TDP next to a CPU i will definetly run away from it. :p

Edit: TBH I dont really learn from my mistakes.. I have a Sony Vaio GRZ610 with P4 2.0 GHz. It heats up like its trying to start a fire or something :D but its all acceptable as I bought because I liked it :) .
