My set up is ; I7 920, Asus Rampge 2 Gene, GTX 560 TI, 6 gig of ram and a OCZ Vertex 2 SSD and using some nasty NZXT case.

Was playing lord of the rings online the other night and my CPU got to 92° ( Also does a high CPU temp cause FPS lag?). So i need to do something about it.

Whats the best options?

Thanks in advance.

what CPU cooler do you have?
and what case exactly?
where does it currently have fans fitted to (if stock then just mention what case you have and we'll be able to see from the spec sheet)

these would be the 2 obvious things to look at changing or adding extra fans to

What paste do you think i should buy? Also could high CPU temps make my DPS drop?

Swap the top intake for an exhaust. Having one in and one out is a bit strange.

If the CPU reaches its throttle point it will affect your FPS.

First thing I'd do is clean out the heatsink and then make sure the fan is spinning up to the correct speeds under load, or if the fan is running at a set speed make sure it still does.

Are you running overclocked? If not you may find the auto setting for your motherboard is using a much higher voltage than is necessary. My auto setting is 1.2v on the vcore (i7 920) and this is far too much as it will happily run at 3.6GHz with less than 1.1v

plastic cover still in place on the bottom of the cooler by mistake?

I would have the 2 top fans on exhaust and the back and front fans on intake personally

or of the two I'd put the front top fan on intake and the rear and rear top on exhaust

Nah theres no plastic on it ive had it since i7 920s were new. Do you have to replace the paste? or is it a good idea to?

if you have removed the cooler replacing paste is a must, if ur having temp issues its a good idea to reseat the cooler, jus incase its had a knock or become loose in any way
