hi, just fitted one of these to my mates i7, temps in IBT have dropped from the high 90s to the mid 70s which is good. but in the manual it says disable thermal fan regulation, what settings in the bios would these be?
its a gigabyte mobo, so just disable it and away we go? even with no bios settings changed temps have dropped 20C or so on load, still the same on idle though
I imagine they don't want the pump speed regulated by the motherboard and want it to run at full speed all the time. Disabling the smart cpu fan in the bios should do this presuming you do have the Eco plugged into the cpu fan header.
i have the 4 pin eco/fan plugged into the 4 pin cpu socket and the 3 pin plug from the thing that bolts to the cpu plugged into sysfan3. disabled Smart Fan or whatever in bios so will test again. would it also be wise to attempt to lower vcore until i get the minimum stable one to get temps down?
Quite a few Gigabyte boards can control the sys fans as well so you may want to check to see if his has that enabled. If it is then best disable that as well. Might be wise to lower it a bit just until you find out where you are with the new cooler.
PWR_FAN header is typically not controlled by the motherboard. The mobo manual will usually list the ones with control functions, whether it's PWM or DC controlled.
ok, temps seem to be down to around 60-64C using prime95 and IBT. got voltages stable @ 1.1000 but failed @ 1.0500 so giving 1.0750 a go to see if that is stable. is a noisey little thing though aint it
