Copperhead Mouse issues

Guys this is baffling.

I have two HD's - C: and D: - the afformetioned being used to store games on and C: being used to run XP. C: is IDE and E: is SATA.

I have a razor Copperhead mouse which has been sublime up until now - however, yesterday i reinstalled Windows XP and have subsequently lost the majority of my executable files for my games off E: (appart from WoW) - which is slightly baffling. I reinstalled XP because my USB's were malfunctioning and i was loosing mouse support and internet connection randomly and regularly. Reinstalling XP seems to have fixed this - prior to the reinstall it even got to a point where the Razor software was telling me that there was no mouse connected even though i was using it!!!

Anyway, i had major onbaord sound issues after XP installation which were resolved after removing various items from Device manager and reinstalling drivers (i swear if you were a rookie doing this you would be completely screwed).

Anyway, ever since, my Razor mouse jumps every time there is hard drive activity from C:. Ive tried to update the firmware but it wont do it (just comes up with a fail message)and ive had to settle on the old drivers which came with the CD. Ive installed drivers for everything i can think of - ive even downloaded the newest drivers from Razor and it says 'FAIL' at the end of the installation process hence the revert to the CD drivers.

Its rather long whinded but i cant imagine what is doing it.

So, where have my executable files gone for ALL my games lol and what could be causing the mouse to jump? - im thinking of formatting E: aswel to start afresh - a dauntung task.

Any help is very much appreciated

Cheers

Sometimes when the problem is a weird and baffling as this, I would recommend another reformat. I'm sorry this is the only answer I can give you, but it seems like its some kind of software issue.

Perhaps, like you said, you should install your main your main partition on your SATA drive instead, which I assume is the faster drive. Then if it is a hardware fault on your IDE drive, you can simply unplug it and see if the jumps still occur.

Get your network drivers installed first, and then install the bare minimum from the net (ie onboard sound, graphics card, windows updates, antivirus) and don't install any of the other stuff on the motherboard disc. Only install if you think the problem is occurring because you haven't installed anything off it.

Oh, and you don't even really need the mouse drivers for your mouse. I use a deathadder and prefer it without the drivers, as its more accurate without mouse acceleration, scaling etc.

Start from the beginning and work out when the problem arises. :)
