In 1987, Road & Track published a test summary that shows the 1988 Honda Prelude 2.0Si 4WS outperforming every car of that year on the Slalom, including all Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Porsches.

Look at that, a Honda Prelude is a supercar beater :eek::eek::D

I know your joking but for reference it was able to destroy supercars in a handling test because it had four wheel steering, they would have annihilated it in a straight line. (ofc it would have annihilated them on reliability, practicality and fuel efficiency but those are not supercar characteristics are they lol)

Before we get too carried away with the prelude don't forget the Citroën Xantia also beat a load of supercars in a cornering G test.

Ooh and the Vauxhall Carlton/Opel Omega was more aerodynamic than most supercars of the day ! :D

And in the going to McDonalds and putting the suspension up and making it look low rider (but crap handling) in the Halford car park test. I STILL remember my 4 weeks in one of these, a hire car until my new 330Ci arrived.

Just think of the NSX in the company of the time though, it had all those characteristics.
 
Skeeter makes an interesting point though. It's too small to get regular RPU kit in and too expensive/overpowered for the usual duties small cars are used for. It's one of the reasons the new impreza didn't really take off with Police forces, it's just a bit too small.

GMP have used various hot hatches before, like the Golf GTi and Audi S3. Think they've got some of the faster Seats too.

Sorry, but that's rubbish. The earlier ones up to 1995 on OBD1 were the ones that were 174bhp and most of them put out that figure. None of them put out 190bhp unless they were modded and even then with a Shrick manifold/map/filter/exhaust, you'd struggle to hit 190bhp.
The later ones on OBD2 from mid '95 up to '97 were the ones that put out ~185bhp stock. Mine was 197bhp after a Map/BMC CAI/Supersprint exhaust. These wouldn't hit 200bhp unless you had cams and the Shrick manifold on.



Corrado VR6 (2.9) was 190bhp
Golf VR6 (2.8) was 174bhp at launch, but see above.

the mk3 vr was fitted with a dastek piggyback - was a budget build christ the full car was sprayed for a cost of £400 in shiny shiny black :) i actually sold it for a profit after everything i spent on it

the 4motion was mapped by a local place- diamond tuning loved it to bits and was a natural step on from the VR6 broke my heart parting with it, but needed to sell to fund a new taxi at the time :(
 
Dastek chip because of the charger then I guess? When you stuck the VGI on, did you have it mapped? See you have on OBD2 car as well. :)

the vgi manifolds come with their own control box which runs off the vacuum, I was lucky to get instructions with mine thank god :) but once its setup right it can be flung on pretty much any car of any spec without any adverse effects.

they do seem to be fetching funny money, i paid nearly £600 for my vgi manifold but they seem to be doing a fair bit more than that now
 
I loved my Corrado VR6 :(

I'd love another VR6 engined car, but the R32 costs too much and the 4Motion is too slow.

A 24v Corrado is what I need. One day....
