copy of Windows not Genuine

I'm not holding anyone responsible and I have a retail version thank god, all I was saying that not everyone will know the conditions of OEM OS and that if they were aware of it would have probably opted for the reatail version. Let's not assume everyone is aware of the license agreement limiting a product before it is actually purchased and that a costumer should be informed of any limitations prior to its sale. License agreements can probably be read on packaging before purchase in a store giving the customer the choice on whether they wish to purchase the product after reading it.

I don't want to go into legality of what a retailer or manufacturer should or shouldn't be doing, I believe it's just morally wrong not to inform the customer of any limitations to a product simply beacause it's cheaper. Some people just assume it's cheaper because there is no fancy packaging.

Same concern as Kayliss, I too bought Retail windows 7 and am doing major upgrade, changing mobo, ram and processor, does this mean I have to buy another OS. If so Microsoft will be getting a very strongly worded letter and I would demand a refund on return of my first purchase of the OS. We as consumers have rights to.

Your not a system builder. OEM products are really meant to be only sold to system builders.

OEM System Building Software

If you're a system builder, look no further for great deals and discounts on OEM software.
OEM software is intended for system builders and small OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) who manufacture computer systems and preinstall OEM system builder software onto those systems. It is not intended for purchase or installation by consumers. Its use is subject to the OEM System Builder License Agreement that is affixed to the side of all OEM system builder software packs. Please note that end-user technical support will be provided by the system builder and not by the manufacturer or the reseller

Could always ask a friend if you could borrow his original disc then buy a key/serial, i have keys for all the w7 Os, each only cost £2.99 and all activated with no problems at all :)
Please note im not selling the key's that's just what i paid for them.

Normaly I would say use Microsoft Automated Phone Activation and don't let the legalities keep you awake at night! but as this is Vista my advice is buy yourself Windows 7 OEM and do a fresh install :)
