Is there something that can automate this process?

I've wanted a sudo make me a sandwich t-shirt for a while, but £30 + vat for a t-shirt seems excessive and their sizing seems to be a bit weird.

I'm guessing with a vector I could have it at any size and thus have it printed on a t-shirt myselve.

The image:

Any ideas on how I do it?

I would use live trace from within illustrator, does exactly what you want, a slightly higher res image would work better.

If you need to work with what you have.. for best results replace the text in illustrator and just use live trace to pick up everything else.

Could import the image to a layer and manually trace over it on a second layer. Best results with a pen and tablet.

Failing that live trace. Correct the text with a 'handwritten' font.
