Displayed at CES yesterday a Sony spokesman showed how its possible to copy a Sony/Columbia BR from your PS3 to a PSP memory stick using BD Live technology

I think personally this is a huge plus and may well be worth getting a new PSP just for this feature, and Sony are contemplating users being able to copy discs, so hopefully home back-ups arent too far behind (we can always hope) :)

Any thoughts anyone?

Thoughts? Why bother with a BD is my immediate thought.
I'd be astounded if you could tell the difference between a BD and a DVD copied to a PSP. IMO you need a fairly good TV and audio system to take advantage of the HD formats, I just don't see a PSP handling that.
In addition, just how big is the memory card in a PSP? Bearing in mind that some BDs are already exceeding 30GB in data, just how are they proposing to squeeze that into a PSP.

It depends on the person.

This is maybe a way of stopping some piracy to an extent. However its another kick in the teeth for PSP UMD Movie format that imo should never have been created or priced so highly. I dont see a big benifit with this tbh for the average consumer. Nice to have it but to me its a gimmick, now with kids movies and kids they could love it.

The PSP2 (or is that 3 now) if and whenever it arrives id expect will be a lot slimmer, lighter and without optical/disc. Sonys in a position to offer a device within the next year or so thats similar to the iphone based on the PSP and with Sony/Ericson could be a mobile phone too. PSN/Home could be adapted in some many ways and also eventually allow PSP games for download as well and played directly from the PS3 just like PS1 games currently are using remote play.

Sony are using the PSP in some nice ways in conjunction with PS3, its kinda got me interested again. However regards this mini movie feature, theirs loads of apps available for a PC that will very quickly convert various file formats or indeed the actual files are grossly available to download via illegal means.

If you already have the PS3 and BR's I think its a great idea personally - it wouldnt have to be anything like the 30GB only requiring stereo audio and on a tiny screen resolution

Whether its any better or worse than a dvd rip is to be seen, theory says it shouldnt be but surely if the quality of the rip is constant (ie the ripping software is as good going from DVD as it is from BR) then the added quality from the BR should be a benfit - of course given the small screen size a dvd should easily be able to do the max pq available

To Me its an added benefit and worth it now you can do it legally

I would think its only so people who have a PS3 a PSP and BR films can copy em and watch em on the move!... its not to show the Full HD res or have 7.1 surround... just so you can watch it on a train whilst commuting etc...

Much easier than lugging your PS3 a 40" FullHD Plasma and an AC Power Generator on to the morning commute from Swindon to London!... :D
