Copyright Material - Website Text

At what point can someone claim copyright on a bunch of words, 5 10, 20 etc?

Seems silly when its at this level, you could say its just down to chance, otherwise most short sentences will have copyright by now! :p
 
How do they know that you nicked it off their site? It's not beyond the realms of possibility that you came up with the same 30 word sentence as them surely?

This doesn't apply to the op, but what if you did actually type something up yourself, genuinely oblivious to the competitors site and you just so happened to have the same wording as them?
 
As said above it could be co-incidental but without knowing what it was its hard to say but claiming copyright on 1 sectence used to describe an item is pretty far fetched.

However, to satisfy not copying it word for word, change a word - its not copyright infringement then.
 
use your saving to buy a botnet and DOS their web site for the next 10 years.. also change the text a bit for its not a total copy of theirs...
 
How much do you need to copy to be classed under copyright?

I can't just post the word 'the' and then get all you guys to remove the use of 'the' because I said it. I could make up a combo of words but I don't see how I have the rights to that, after a few day no one could say or type anything?
