Hi I can only afford a E2180 conroe 2.0 at the mo would it be better to go for single core and higher MHz if you want gaming performance?

It might depend slightly on the other CPU involved but I'd almost certainly go for the E2180, bearing in mind also that there is very good potential for overclocking them as well.

Well you swayed me semi-pro waster, forgot folk are overclocking these to 2.6 from what I have read and I probably have more frequent use for core 2 duo when burning/surfing/and other stuff at that price it,s a good start.
cheers

I'd be amazed if you couldn't hit 3ghz with an E2180 to be honest.

One of those at 2.5Ghz+ will be fine in any game at the moment, given a suitable GPU to pair it with.

apparently there is an issue with the low cache being inhibiting to games performance at high clockspeeds, but i say it's nothing to worry about... Go for the E2*** series... you'll love it :)

off topic -

Iceblade I notice you have a Coolermaster Elite 330 case, what's it like installing hardware into? I have a brand new one sitting next to me waiting for the build I'm doing this week!

Looks like a nice case for the money :)

ehm, it's cheap, hey? :P. i like the case... really slick, and hardware installation isn't a problem... considering this system was my first build i found it pretty painless... except, i was a noob and not aware you can remove the front bezel so i cut myself removing one of the panes installing the CD drive... but aside from mounting the mobo in and fitting the I/O panel, it's pretty easy to do, and roomy enough, i'd say...

personally, though, i wasn't happy about the fact that they don't leave any good place for case stickers, nor are the LED cables so easy to work with... as a result of that i still haven't hooked up the power LED and my PC has no headphone input capabilities...

i like it though... good case, and an okay substitute for what i wanted to get; an antec 900

is that the E2160 build you mentioned in the OC thread???
