Core 2 Duo prices drops: when?

if they do i would imagine it would be when AMD come up with some compertition as Intel have the forecourt at the moment and show no signs of budging on their own accord

The OP asked if there were likely to be any price drops, not whether or not the current price was fair . I'm sure any one of you would love to be paying even less for this product.

Precisely, and I agree with your comment, but there may be some people out there that cannot afford it even at its current price level and are hoping for a fall in the New Year, which is why it's unfair to make naive remarks like "The E6300, E6400, E6600 are at very good prices in the first place". Intel are making their bucks from us, don't worry about it, as well they should be doing.

like i said above, there will be no pricedrops what so ever until AMD comes out with something im suprised they havnt upped the price the demand there in at the moment is insane, AMD have to be seriously hurting.

Price drops will come when AM3 comes out, whether or not it is better doesn't matter. Intel want to undercut AMD and make large profits on the medium to low end as well as highend markets.

AM3 isn't due for another year or so, we havnt even seen anything remotly impressive from AM2 Yet :p

after the turn of the year when K8 rev. F2 arrives, if it overclocks very well so they can keep conroe within reach until K8L then intel will have no choice but to lower prices, cause theres no way AMD are entering rev. F2 at higher than conroe price, would be damned right stupidity :) im personally curious to see just how far K8 overclocks on 65nm, wouldn't mind one of those low power models if F2 overclocks well, hoping to see 3.4Ghz on the table :)
