Core 2 Duo Problem?

My uncle has a core 2 duo rig, maybe i could test things on his? but if i cant test anything what shall i RMA? Mobo first?

Without first hand experience of your kit I'm not going to tell which part to RMA, I'll only 'suggest it', after all, I may be well off the mark. Best to ask your uncle first and then call the support from where you purchased evreything from. Should be fairly easy to quickly swap CPU's.

yes try his ram in your setup. There is a voltage thing with the ram on the old bios revisions once you get it to boot up the ram voltage in the bios to say +0.4 and try your ram again. From there when you get it windows installed download the altest bios from the thread in motherboards and install that. Hopefully it will work if your uncle that is has compatible ram.

Im not saying its definitely the ram but I had this exact problem with this exact motherboard and it was the ram.

On a side note does anyone know of any cheap RAM that is definatly compatible with my ds3?

Sorry been reading/replying to so many threads on this kinda subject (not just on these forums) that I assumed you were using performance corsair RAM, if its corsair value then in theory it should work.

Just had a look on corsair's site too it says that their memory is compatible with the ds3 after F3 BIOS how can i find out what version BIOS i have without having to see it onscreen?

Instead of getting an RMA on the PSU, try booting it up without the mobo, short the green and any black wire on the 24 Pin connection, something like a paper clip will work fine, press the psu switch on the back and see if the unit will start up, i.e fan starts spinning.

Sorry forgot to say! Ive got the psu powering my Socket A system fine now so i dont think its the PSU.

Still could be the PSU as the grf card uses quite a bit of juice, well more than any ones before its time.

Maybe try a different PSU if you have access to a friends or your uncles

Since that PSU is powering another rig, it should have worked with just the mobo/CPU, so lets assume that it's ok.

I would try the CPU in your Uncle's rig. If it works, then it's your mobo that's faulty. If not, then obviously it's the CPU.

Having heard of many people with the same prob as me and it being down to the RAM i am asking for some cheapo 256MB DDR2 that works with the DS3 in the wanted section!

have you got another psu you can stick in to try, or stick that psu in another pc to try, following the hassle people seem to be having with hipers lately, sent my 580r back last week

Already got it running in another rig Socket A tho so it wont consume as much power but it works fine in that rig

Dont think so it just has a 24-pin ATX connector and a 4-pin power conector
