So far i've purchased the following hardware components.

Corsair 2x1GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 EPP TwinX Memory.
EVGA Nvidia nForce 680i Motherboard.
BFG nVidia GeForce 8800GTS 640MB GDDR3 Graphics Card.

I've decided to leave the Processor and CPU Cooler till last which i'm now getting ready to purchase next week. What would you guys suggest i get to go with what i have above.

E6400 is a waste of money, either go for a 6300 or 6600. I had the 6300 but sold for a 6600 because I liked the multi's and the extra 2mb cache.

Do you have a similar setup?

i've been reading on some posts that is it true that the core 2 duo E6300 can cause bottlenecks with 8800 GTS?

Which i find hard to believe.

At stock the 6300 probably would, but who runs one at stock? :p

Personally with that setup i'd go for a 6600 and a Scythe Ninja.

You can't be serious? I thought the Core 2 Duos where more than capable of handling the 8800 series what ever E6xxx version you had.

yeh we're just saying that running the 6300 at stock which is like 1.8 ghz or whatever is a bottleneck you would need to oc, though with the stock fan you can do like 2.8 ghz :)

May go for the E6300 and OverClock the pants of it. But at the moment i'm between the E6300 and the E6600 so far. Slightly leaning towards the E6600.

Go E6600 dude, then if you get a bad overclocker you still have a good chip :)

LOL, Yep! true very likely now that i'll be getting the E6600.

Whats the best cooler to get instead of the stock heatsink and fan.

I also went for the 6600 over the 6300 as I don't tend to overclock the CPU at all.

As for the fan I got the

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)

Which is a superb fan at keeping the CPU cool and is very quiet. It's a large beast though so you may want to check that your case is big enough to take it.

My rig is virtually the same as the one your building and gets 7785 on 3D Mark 06 with everything running at stock. So your going to get a really nice rig that will run all of todays games virtually flat out at the highest settings.
