Core 2 Duo Upgrade?

IIRC GTS they can but not GTX.

No offence but thats rubbish. A GTS can perform the same as a GTX with a bit of clocking.

All this "bottlenecking" rubbish people are repeating without understanding exactly what it means is starting to get irritating.

If you bottleneck a graphics card it doesnt cause slow downs or make your computer go wrong it simply means that the gfx card has more performance in it than your CPU can supply.

It simply means that an X2 will get about 8500 3DMark06 scores with a 8800 and a Core2Duo will get about 10500 with the same gfx card. The chances are in real gaming you are unlikely to notice the difference.

Hey guys i've found an E6300 a good deal to be honest, is it suitable for gaming put in mind the specifications i've listed above. If not then it's gonna have to be the E6600.

Like I said IIRC.

How's that then?
GTX has more steam processors, a higher memory bus, higher memory bandwidth and texture fill rates.

IIRC? Enough of the technical slang, lets have it in bold words.

All i'm asking is the E6300 suitable enough for gaming with my specifications?

Hows that then? Easily. The G80 gpu's overclock very well with the standard cooler. Personally I am easily pulling over 11k in 3dmark06 with a GTS as is a mate. Unless you are gaming at stupid resolutions the GTX is simply not needed, of course if you have the cash there is no reason not too, but I personally would save the money and spend it else where on the system where a difference will be made, such as a better cpu/mobo cooling - in fact you can get a water cooling setup for the amount of money buying a GTS over a GTX will save you.

In answer to GeePee - you have made some very good purchasing decisions and a E6300 will match your rig very nicely indeed :) Should be able to clock that to 3.2ghz as well ;) An E6600 would probably get you guaranteed 3.2 - 3.4ghz but in real world use you are unlikely to see a difference.

Get the 6600 with that setup,

You spend near enough 200 on a mobo and want to save 100 on the cpu?

Maddness.

Getting a 6300 you might aswell have got the 650i chipset for 70 quid.

Th extra cache will help in games and you should be good for 3.6ghz with a 6600.

BTW the GTS is not a GTX however way you look at it.

It's great to hear that it's suitable as i only plan on gaming at 1280x1024 on a 19" TFT screen.

Getting so many saying E6300 and E6600 that it's getting harder to make a decision now.

I'm glad i left the Processor till last gives me chance to look at them.

why did you spend nearly 200 on a mobo?

its a no brainer IMO the 6600 with that setup makes sense.

it doesn't sound like a money issue?

so whats the problem?

Well there's no problem, E6600 i can get cheapish. So if thats the recommended then that what it looks like i'll be getting. I don't want the stock cooler with those stupid push pins. Are there any coolers out there that are bolt on or clip on?

I find AMD's idea of the clip on a good idea should have been used on the Core 2 Duos as i find them less of a pain to put on the motherboard.

Whats the price on the tuniq.

Just Purchased the E6600 cheers for all your help. According to game retailers expected launch for crysis is march but don't hold your breath on it.
