Core 2 Duos E6850: E6750: E6550 Reviewed (1333 FSB G0 stepping)

they look very nice for the price, however they are simply refined core 2 duo's, doesnt seem to be doing anything spectacular in performance. I'm not going to go for one though. I mean i'm only going to see probably about 300mhz/400mhz more realistic overclocking potential and i just don't think i will see any gains in games (which is what my pc is primarily for).

Will wait for penryn methinks

Not really an upgrade if you have a C2D all ready, best wait for the penryn

I would agree with that ... but what will be the cost of a new Penryn, Wolfdale, or Yorkfield come Jan 2008. Not cheap I would imagine
.

I've got a E4300 at the moment with a P5N-E SLI. I was going to upgrade to the E6600 next month but the following prices look more then tempting:

Core 2 Duo E6850 will sell for $266, Core 2 Duo E6750 - for $183, and Core 2 Duo E6550 – for $163

I think I'll go for the E6750. Any ideas what prices to expect in the UK?

Thats currently what an E6420 costs ($183), so I'd say it'll be £123.36 from OCUK. :p ;)

I think I'm having a dumb ass moment here but I don't follow your post? Excuse my moment of stupidity, but are you saying that the E6750 will be £123.36?

Would the E6850 be around the same price as the E6600 is now when it comes out for sale in July.. Around the £150 mark or do you think it will cost more? [Less would be better though! :p]

Cheers

It's the UK 17.5% VAT rate that makes stuff so expensive here. If the yanks had to pay the dollar equivalent in sales tax there would be riots
.

My thoughts exactly. Any more cores? No. Any smaller architecture? No. Higher /unlocked multiplier? No.

Remind me again why you would pay a lot more money for one of these?

Most likely upgrade options for people without a C2D yet and want to get one, doubt they are specifically aimed for upgrades for people that already have mid-high range core2's.

The cache doesnt make much of a difference. Your better off going for a quad core or waiting for the penryn.
